Reading - Last week we continued our study of fictional stories. We focused on sequencing events of a story. In class, students read Max's Words and practiced sequencing the events. Students also continued to study sequencing through various read alouds, activities, and comprehension assignments. Our vocabulary words came from Max's Words.
Writing - Students worked on their personal narratives by brainstorming small moments from their own life.
Math - Last week we focused on subtraction strategies. Students learned the standard algorithm, break apart strategy, modeling strategy, number line, and strip diagrams. Students also worked on identifying the key words for subtraction in solving word problems and how to subtract across zeros. Practicing addition and subtraction facts is a great way for students to utilize their math minutes!
Science - Last week we focused on CHANGES in matter. Students investigated what happens when you add heat or remove heat. We also completed a fun experiment at the end of the week to observe the changes in matter!
Social Studies - Students presented their good citizen research projects last week. We will begin our next unit in Social Studies, which is government!
