Reading - This week we are going to discuss ways we can select a good book. We will reflect on emotions that we experience as we are reading. We will make personal connections with our independent reading books.
Writing - This week we will continue to focus on responding to questions in complete sentences by restating the question. We will also focus on nouns and discuss the difference between a common and proper noun, and the difference between a singular and plural noun. Students will learn the rules for plural nouns. Finally, students will review what they learned about nouns this week using mentor sentences that demonstrate the correct usage of nouns, common vs. proper nouns, and plural nouns. Students will share their observations about each sentence, then create their own sentences using each type of noun.
Math - This week we are going to continue our unit of study on place value. We will practice representing numbers up to 9,999 in expanded form and work on locating numbers on a number line. We will then move on to comparing numbers and putting a set of numbers in order from least to greatest/greatest to least.
Science - This week we will begin our unit on classifying matter. Students will explore the three states of matter and review the concept of physical properties. Students will also have an opportunity to explore ways in which matter can be classified (mass, sink/float, magnetism, texture, and temperature).
Social Studies - This week we will discuss what good citizenship looks like to us, how we are good citizens in our community, and why good citizenship is important.
